A retrospective analysis was performed to evaluate the use of hydroxyapatite for revision total hip arthroplasty. A retrospective analysis of five patients with a minimum 2-year follow-up was performed. Patient clinical and radiographic data were compared before and after revision total hip arthroplasty with hydroxyapatite. The average Harris hip score improved from 28 to 71. Radiographic evidence of bony ingrowth was observed in all cases. Histologic evidence of hydroxyapatite in bone was demonstrated in all five cases. A significant reduction in average hospitalization from 6 to 3.4 days was observed. Revision total hip arthroplasty with hydroxyapatite appears to be a viable option for selected patients. Further prospective analysis is necessary.Delayed-type hypersensitivity to hen egg white lysozyme in multiple sclerosis. We describe 11 patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) who presented with delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) to hen egg white lysozyme (HEL) when studied shortly after the onset of the disease. There were four men and seven women; the mean age at the onset of MS was 32.1 yr. The proportion of patients with DTH was higher than in other studies of MS patients using the same antigen.
